I start with drawings that are loaded with recognizable elements, which elicit personal meaning for each viewer. These narrative elements provide a small preview into my thoughts and perceptions. Using a profusion of images, which are sometimes found, constructed or imagined, I bend reality in an attempt to explore multiple layers of space evoking a sense of collision on a single plane. Familiar imagery allows me to personally connect to the viewer. By juxtaposing these elements the original intent is lost and the viewer affixes new meaning.
Once my drawings have been transferred onto a smooth surfaced print paper, I begin painting using watercolors. Through the use of architectural elements, grids, tracks of perforated lines and layers of paint, I focus on the overall esthetics of each painting. Although, some of the pieces are large in scale while others are relatively small, size becomes part of the narrative and reinforces my interest in creating a new dimension in space.
